Dear diary,
As a nature lover I am absolutely thrilled with President Johnson's commitment to helping the environment. Some of the acts that have been passed are the Wilderness Act, Land and Water Conservation Act, Motor Vehicle Air Pollution Control Act, and the National Trails System Act. I think this is really going to help the control the smog problem that some cities have been having. It is great to know that more land is being protected now too, we only have one planet after all. I'd like it to still be clean for my children to see.
Dear diary,
I would just like to thank the lord that President Johnson's Medicare act passed. This country has been needing a national health insurance program for quite some time. My father failed to pass his health examination when he was drafted into WWII. Many people did back then because going to the doctor is so expensive! But its not now, for me anyway. This is really going to help a lot of people. Good timing too, as I'm nearly 76 and my hip has been giving me some trouble.
Dear diary,
Since joining Volunteers in Service to America I have never been happier. I wake up every morning knowing I'll serve an important role in fighting the war on poverty. I work in a lot of low income neighborhoods and meet so many interesting individuals from all walks of life. Its encouraging to see the progress that we have all made and the lives that we have touched. Before I joined VISTA I couldn't find a job anywhere. I was near to being on the street myself. All I knew was that I wanted to help someone and make a difference. It will be a shame when my year of service is over, but I know with the experience I have now I will have no problems finding more ways to help people. I just wish that I could thank President Johnson for his concern for the lower class. The other Presidents didn't pay them much concern, I don't think they understood. Finally people are getting to help they need, and I could not be happier to be a part of it.
